The Macomb Centennial Morning Rotary
Club began as a project of the noon club in an effort to allow
more members of the Macomb community to participate in providing
"service above self." The club met informally during
the first part of 2005, gaining the required 25 members to form
a club on February 23, 2005 - the exact day of the 100th centennial
anniversary of Rotary International.
The
Macomb Centennial Morning Rotary Club meets weekly on Thursday
mornings at the Old Dairy, a restaurant located at 210 South Lafayette
Street. Club members gather between 6:30 a.m. and 7 to share breakfast,
coffee and conversation. Meetings begin at 7 a.m. with a prayer
and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a song. The club president
then leads discussion of any Rotary business or announcements,
and members share pleasant occurrences in their lives with the
donation of “Happy Money.” The highlight of each meeting
is an informational or inspirational presentation by a club member
or invited guest.
The
Centennial club is a service-based group. Ideas for service projects
are brought before the executive board and then the full membership
for participation. The club has cooperated in many projects during
its brief history, including quarterly highway trash pickup days,
volunteering at a local museum, reading to elementary students,
building homes for Habitat for Humanity, assisting with bone marrow
and blood drives, raising funds for a dental clinic serving low-income
residents, and countless other projects. Members continually strive
to embody the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
